Rutowski Lab

For those of us working in this laboratory, few biological phenomena are as interesting as the behaviors involved in visual signaling and perception. To study these phenomena we apply a behavioral ecological approach that integrates on proximate and ultimate time scales the mechanisms of color production, color perception by intended receivers, and visual signal function.

The Rutowski laboratory focuses on arthropods, especially butterflies, as excellent study systems.  This web site will introduce you to the sorts of questions we are currently addressing, the organisms we study, who is and has been involved in this work.  We welcome your feedback and questions.  Enjoy!
